Our Editorial Commitment
The Safeguard of Veracity
Freedom of expression is consubstantial with the exercise of democracy; for a pluralistic and tolerant system to function, an enlightened society is required, free from censorship or third-party interference.
Under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, every individual can and must enjoy the freedom of opinion and expression. Furthermore, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights establishes a framework of duties and responsibilities that the exercise of this prerogative entails: legal limits concerning defamatory statements, manifestations demeaning to the human being, or conspiracies against the constitutional order, among others.
In this context, the conduct of journalistic activity in modern times should be anchored in the principle of veracity, conveying to the citizenry events of secure and demonstrable provenance, backed by the irrefutable guarantee of political and media independence. However, this is not the case. The internet and the era of post-truth have brought about the rise and proliferation of 'liquid information': the great deception of contemporary journalism that has blurred the dividing line between truth and falsehood in favour of power, instating clientelism and corruption as daily habits. Consequently, media conglomerates have moved towards constructing and distributing news solely at the service of financial markets, becoming 'their master's voice'.
At The Sentinel Telegraph, we rebel against those who undermine the deontological code of the professionals who honour this vocation every day. We are a truthful and incorruptible press, offering you news about the world that interests you and in which you live. We wish to hear from you; therefore, we invite you to become a narrator and to join our participative and democratic movement. Because for us, the news is you.
